Our public space has moved online. But it is not public anymore. It is controlled by private platforms driven by profit.
Europe built strong public broadcasters for television and radio. We now need to extend this model to social media. This is not a disruption. It is the next step.
We call for the creation of Vidi, a new public service. A social media owned by its citizens. A space that is safe, transparent, and built for the common good.
Vidi is the social media people need and want…
This is how Europe can build it…
Video-based platform 📺
competing with the most popular services
European infratructure 🇪🇺
ensuring a sovereign governance
Publicly owned infrastructure 🏛️
operated by public broadcasters
Cool and unique features 😎
making it an attractive platform
Vidi will a trustworthy platform thanks to an innovative business model inspired from traditional European media.
This will enable Europe to build a sustainable, moderated and safe platform for all European citizens.
Vidi won’t be “European Youtube.” It will offer a unique social experience by tranforming video watching into a collective moment.
While existing platforms isolate users with an endless feeds, Vidi will create a digital living room in which friends and family can enjoy content together.
Our report proposes a high-level roadmap with a key first step:
support from several public European institutions.
Vidi is not a start-up project, it is a public service project,
so it requires institutional support.
